Digital Artwork Guidelines
1. File Format:
- All electronic art files must be high-resolution RGB image files in either TIFF (created in Adobe Photoshop) or EPS (created in Adobe Illustrator) format. [NOTE: If you are working in Illustrator CS3, please back-save to Illustrator CS2 before sending the file. Art files saved in Illustrator CS3 format will not be usable.]
- For TIFF format, use LZW compression.
- For EPS format, use binary encoding.
2. Required resolutions for TIFF files:
- Color: 300 dpi [remember to save as RGB]
- Grayscale: 300 dpi [required for photos, without text]
- Combo: 800 dpi [required for photos and text]
- Line art: 800 dpi [B&W text only]
- EPS images should not include embedded art.
3. File naming:
- Each art file name should be unique within a protocol and should follow the actual protocol author name(s).
- Example: If the protocol is written by Jones et al., then the related art image should be Jones_fig1.tif, Jones_fig2.tif, Jones_fig3.eps etc.
- NOTE: File names should never include spaces, tabs, or these characters: * ! \ / & ; . ( ) < >
- Only underscores (_) and hyphens (-) are acceptable in file names; underscores are preferred.
