Transplantation of Tissues Under the Kidney Capsule

INTRODUCTION

This protocol describes a method for transplanting tissue under the kidney capsule. The in vivo developmental potential of transplanted adult or embryonic tissues can then be determined.


MATERIALS

Reagents

Adult or embryonic tissue to be transplanted

recipe caution Appropriate anesthetic

Ethanol, 70%

Recipient histocompatible (or immunodeficient) mouse

recipe Sterile isotonic or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) (pH 7.2)

Equipment

Clean cage

Drummond micropipette tip or sealing wax

Forceps, 26-mm diameter Desmarres chalazion (Shields/Dina C62-2810)

Forceps, blunt fine

Forceps, watchmaker’s #5
